Why This Matters: A Breakthrough for Transport Electrification in France
Europe’s heavy-duty transport sector is undergoing historic change, as trucks and the energy they depend on are being redefined. In 2024, electric trucks represented just 1.4 % of new commercial vehicle registrations in France, underscoring the gap to meet ambitious EU emissions targets of -45 % by 2030 and -90 % by 2040. Charging infrastructure remains a major bottleneck.
Renault Trucks is leading the charge. In 2024, the company sold 1,628 electric vehicles in Europe, securing a 29.7 % market share in the over-16 tonne segment in France and an average 24.2 % share in the medium- and heavy-duty electric truck sector across Europe. This project reinforces Renault Trucks’ position as one of the Europe’s OEM leaders in electrification.
By combining high speed truck charging with battery storage, the Gennevilliers project offers a new blueprint: how truck hubs can simultaneously secure future power needs while accessing energy and flexibility markets to optimize energy costs.
