Meet Cyril Champier, our VP of Engineering, whose journey from French unicorns to climate tech reflects a rare combination of deep experience, startup spirit and a belief that tech can (and should) make the world better.

From Unicorns to Purpose-Driven Tech

Cyril describes his role at Decade Energy simply: “Leading the software team, designing architecture and overseeing implementation.” But behind that modest summary lies two decades of experience that’s helped build some of the most recognizable tech ventures in France.

Cyril has contributed to the success of two French unicorns, Doctolib and Swile, and co-founded a startup as CTO, exiting successfully before an industrial acquisition. His experience spans both ends of the spectrum: From four-person engineering teams to industry giants like Total.

This mix of startup scrappiness and enterprise-scale thinking gives Cyril a unique lens: He knows how to build from zero, but also how to lay the foundations that scale.

“I’ve worked in small and large teams, but I’m most energized by early-stage building. There’s something really powerful about starting from scratch and seeing the direct impact of every decision.”

Why Decade Energy, Why Now

So why make the leap into climate tech? For Cyril, the answer is clear:

“Fossil fuels pose an existential threat. We need urgent action, and Decade Energy has the potential to be a game-changer.”

What drew him to Decade Energy was the opportunity to drive real-world impact at scale. The clean energy transition isn’t just a technical challenge, but a moral one. That’s exactly the kind of challenge Cyril loves to take on.

“I joined Decade Energy because I wanted to help build something meaningful. The transformation of industries like energy and logistics is massive, and it’s happening now. Being part of that shift is incredibly motivating.”

Where will you find him outside of work? Most likely with his family, enjoying good food and kicking back with some video games when he gets the chance.
